One of the first tasks of taking on a siding project is seeking out and hiring a licensed and experienced contractor. This can be an intimidating task for many people. As few have extensive knowledge of the siding industry, it is difficult to know what questions to ask. Knowing this, Kansas City Siding decided to create a list of interview questions that we recommend. We want you to have the best possible siding experience.

Here are questions to ask a potential contractor:

  • How long have you had your contractor’s license? Is your license current?
  • Is your quote all-inclusive? (i.e. waste removal, unexpected delays, etc.)
  • Do you primarily work with siding and exteriors?
  • What siding materials are you comfortable with? Do you have examples of your work to show me?
  • When do you think you will be able to start on the job? When do you think you will be able to finish?

It is advisable to interview a large number of candidates before hiring a contractor. When you have sorted through the answers and decided on the contractor that you think is best suited to the position, your next task is to draw up and sign a contract. You will want to make sure that the agreement includes a list of all services to be provided and a full log of the project’s cost.

SIDING MATERIAL COST COMPARISON

Just about every budget can accommodate new siding. Whether you have cash to spare or are just scraping by, Kansas City Siding has something for you. If you are able to purchase a higher-quality material, such as fiber cement or cedar, we do recommend that you pursue the option. In the siding business, you tend to get what you pay for with materials.

When you are picking out exterior products, keep the following things in mind:

  • Does it require work post-installation? (i.e. staining, painting, scraping)
  • Is there a warranty or guarantee on the material?
  • Is the produce amenable to local weather conditions?
  • What will your home look like when the project is finished and you have your new siding in place?

SIDING INSTALLATION COST

The cost of siding installation can vary wildly, contractor to contractor, typically in line with local supply and demand and the person’s professional experience. The quality and name brand of the exterior materials chosen also play a role, though less so than the above. The average cost of new siding ranges from six to twelve dollars per square foot, including labor expenses. Cedar is the most expensive material to install, as the boards require delicate handling. Fiber cement siding—the most popular material in the Kansas City Area—is somewhat difficult to work with, but runs in the middle of the pack in terms of cost. Vinyl siding is the least expensive, being quite easy to work with.

The lowest possible cost of new siding is self-installed vinyl. While DIY installation may save a bit of money up front, these savings are not likely to last over the long term. Self-installed exteriors tend to decay very quickly, requiring repair and replacement. Exterior experts recommend that home and business owners seek out qualified professionals—like those here at Kansas City Siding—to do the job.

Our testimonials

"Great Work!"

I am so glad that we chose Kansas City Siding to work on our home. I am so grateful to the entire team for all of the hard work that they put into making our home beautiful again. The owners were wonderful people and very easy to work with. They always made sure that my husband and I were up to date on the status of the project. Our house was not particularly easy to work on, as one of our walls is a matter of inches from the neighbor’s wall. It didn’t faze the crew at all though! They handled the entire thing beautifully. They did a great job on the house, stayed within our budget, and kept to the timeline that we agreed on. Such a delightful experience. Thanks to everyone at Kansas City Siding for all of your hard work.

"Thanks Kansas City Siding!"

A few months ago our siding was looking pretty shabby. It had been installed over thirty-five years ago, so it was certainly time for a change. I did thorough research and found all the best companies in the area that do this sort of work. After talking to a number of contractors and getting a few quotes, I compared the results. Kansas City Siding had the best deal out there. They sent out a skilled, friendly crew the very next day. Their prices were affordable too. I don’t know how they managed to give me such a good deal, but I’m not complaining about it.

"Great people and great work"

Kansas City Siding should set the gold standard for customer service. I have never been so impressed with a company’s client relations ever before in my life. I was on a tight budget and very upfront about that, but they still gave me all of the time and attention they might give to a big, VIP account. The owner and I sat down and brainstormed our options. We thought it would be best to replace the two most damaged walls first, coming back to take care of the rest in a couple of years. It was a wonderful experience and I feel like I came out of it with a friend in the siding business. I really recommend these guys.

"Great customer service, top-tier work"

Kansas City Siding worked wonders on our home. They took our shabby old exterior and replaced it with beautiful fiber cement boards. The owner was kind and patient as my wife and I took forever to decide which product and color we wanted. We walked through all of the pros and cons together, and we were never made to feel like a nuisance. When we finally picked everything out, we had a crew at our house taking down the old siding that very day. I was amazed! They were all so friendly and conscientious, always cleaning everything up before they left for the day. I really could not have had a better experience.
